Chin-chin to Duncan and Ange's fab 'British' wedding.

I’ve just had the loveliest Australia Day weekend in one of my favourite parts of this world: the New England.

Specifically, Uralla.

You guys know I am a winter girl through and through – and this stuff makes me HAPPY.

Therefore when Angela and Duncan asked me to be their gal behind the lens for their nuptials, I was an immediate yes!

Given these guys live around Curlewis / Breeza, you’d wonder why a destination wedding at Uralla? Why? Well - that’s because they were way too smart to get married in the northwest in January – and, more importantly, because our handsome Groom and his family all hail from the UK. Thus, the theme of a ‘New England’ wedding. How great is that?

Even better than a cool-country wedding was being surrounded by a fabulously warm, funny and friendly family who speak in the gorgeous soft tones of the West Country English.

I just loved the fact that Dunc and Ange had no bridal party and that their day was such a laid back and minimalist affair in some ways. Minimum fuss and fluff and a focus on family and friends is the kind of wedding I respect more and more, the longer I am in this game.

These guys were surrounded with love and laughter – and it was infectious. Wherever they went was a trail of this vibe.

Angela has a wonderful sense of humour and a deep, delightful, throaty laugh which just bubbles up and out … and you just find yourself swept up into the warmth of her straight-up and honest personality. She’s totally a legend, and she’s clearly made of strength and bounce.

Duncan, who I met on the day, could not possibly have been more welcoming and inclusive – as were his entire family. Not to mention funny as all get-out. Truly, I wholeheartedly appreciate and adore British subtleties and humour. It’s the best.

So all in all, Uralla’s ‘’Merilba Estate’’ was a really sensible location, and perfect for many reasons. Good job, chaps.

The great irony of hosting their big day in an English-vibe / environment was that we got rain. Literally, the thunder began to rumble during the vows … and a few of us were nervously glancing skywards. And yet, by the skin of our teeth, we got the gang inside and with just enough time to squeeze in a group photo. PHEW.

While we might’ve missed the trademark sunset wedding photos, nobody cared one iota, because that’s the kind of awesome humans the Bakers and Briggs’ are.

The evening finished on a really amusing note when one of Angela’s colleagues brought out ‘’Bubbles’’ the python for a quick unceremonious ‘welcome to ‘Straya’ cuddle for Dunc!

You can imagine….

Actually, Dunc handled it like a pro. His ‘’scared face’’ was totally for my benefit.

Bubbles behaved like the darling she is, gave a couple of us a quick kiss, and was promptly put back into her sleeping quarters to sleep soundly while the rest of the gang partied on.

So guys – without further ado, go ahead and enjoy a quick selection that I have put together for you to share with family and friends.

Massive congratulations to you all – and many, many thanks for your awesome company –

Shanna Bananna
